Jr. Manufacturing Cost Estimator

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Jr. Manufacturing Cost Estimator is responsible for assisting the Sr. Manufacturing Cost Estimator in the development of manufacturing inputs for Proposals in response to request for proposal (RFP), engineering change proposals (ECP), rough order magnitude (ROM), and budgetary estimates (BE). The position also requires the ability to plan and schedule proposal efforts; interface with operations management, program management, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and manufacturing to collect cost data, basis of estimates, and schedule data. Responsible for the quality review of all data and compiling operations inputs in accordance with customer and FAR requirements. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Estimator will participate in internal pricing review, customer/government fact finding meetings and audits. Will provide support to contracts department for contractual negotiations as required. Position requires strong interpersonal skills, time management, Microsoft Office software and Deltek Costpoint ERP software package skills. Position will also require performance of other manufacturing departmental duties as assigned. Job position reports to the Director of Operations.
Essential Functions
  • Estimate current production hardware labor hours and rework percentages based on average actual labor hours extracted from heritage Deltek GCS premier and current Deltek Costpoint ERP systems.
  • Apply learning curve theory to touch labor for estimating large volume builds.
  • Estimate new product by elemental breakdown analysis and labor standards where available.
  • Prepare Basis of Estimate (BOE) details to detail how each pricing element is constructed.
  • Code product structures for program make/buy execution and construct consolidated Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) for pricing based on product structures extracted from either heritage Netcycle or current Costpoint ERP systems.
  • Establish attrition and minimum buy allowances for creation of amortized unit pricing to utilize within priced indented bill of materials.
  • Work with purchasing department to solicit material quotes.
  • Work with Sr. Manufacturing Cost Estimator to cost out various quantities of hardware.

  • Performs and assist in special projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  • Assists in development of manufacturing labor standards for products internally fabricated.
  • Education and Experience
  • Associate degree, or existing college credits and plan to complete that demonstrate applicant s ability to acquire a degree within 2 years of hire.
  • Experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Certificates and Licenses Required
  • Valid driver s license.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of project management tools, including Microsoft Project software. Ability to comprehend and learn new software. DELTEK Costpoint ERP software knowledge a plus.
  • Strong computer skills with primary emphasis on Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) skills.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate engineering and manufacturing processes and control systems. Knowledge of manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems a plus.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical assembly and electronic circuit assembly drawings and test requirement specifications.

  • Ability to speak well; have good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel; and effective human relations skills are essential.

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
